Congratulations on acquiring your home. No matter what the age of the house, there will always something that needs to be done, and if you want to do as much as possible instruments is a prerequisite.
One of the first things I suggest you buy a book for home repairs. Home Depot has one, Lowe's has one, and I know bookstores have a wide variety. These books are in the collection of information, both for repairs or for the configuration of inestimable value. It will usually cover the entireBases, and give you information about large objects, you probably get a professional repair person. I would suggest one that always has plenty of illustrations, since these can be very helpful. You will learn how to fix a toilet to replace an electrical switch, and so many other things!
In more and you would be equipped with tools, I make a few suggestions. You can go and spend a lot in the tool box filled with hundreds of pieces, but I would at the pass: start with afew simple tools like a small hammer, a good set of screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench (maybe a smaller and more), pliers, a drill, a measuring tape, filler, goggles and a knife. You can get an inexpensive tool box as well as on.
Think of a few other things that are a step ladder, drop cloth, tape, brushes, extension cords, a pair of work gloves and a flashlight (at least one).
With the purchase of tools, you canGet the cheapest or the most expensive. My philosophy is expensive if you are not sure how much you want to be, must have the tool, it is not with the. You spend less and if you click with the tool all the time, then you can look to replace them, and at that point you will have a better idea of what you want. I could always go on about the tools that you might want, but I think it's best to start with the basics and add-on as you go.
If you have some big projects in mind, you do notnecessarily buy the expensive tools to get started. Many hardware stores rent tools you might need, such as a circular saw, tile saw, hammer drill, circular saw, and pneumatic nail guns and compressors. You will save a lot of money renting these items if you do not think you'll ever use them again. And you will be less clutter in your garage or workbench area.
Good luck!
